CHRIS 180 | WRAParound Model
According to the CDC, 17% of children ages 2 to 8 (1 in 6) have a diagnosed mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder—for those in poverty, that number is even higher at 22%. Affordability, lack of insurance, lack of transportation, and stigma present significant barriers to accessing vital mental health care and support services for disadvantaged children and their families.
CHRIS 180 exists to stand in the gap so that high-quality, trauma-informed behavioral health services and support systems are available to all children, adults, and families. CHRIS 180’s goal is to save, serve, and protect abused, neglected, and traumatized children, youth, and young adults and empower families through positive, solution-focused programming that enables them to change the direction of their lives despite challenging circumstances.
It is essential to treat children’s mental health challenges early and within the context of their families, homes, and communities for both intervention and prevention, as the emotional well-being of children is inextricably tied to the functioning of their parents and families.
Reducing the stressors affecting children requires addressing the stresses on their families and proactively providing both parents and children with the tools and support they need to thrive through multigenerational services—or a two-generation approach.
CHRIS 180’s WRAParound model provides intensive home- and community-based treatment services for children and families with significant behavioral or emotional health needs where they live and work. Services are trauma-informed, intensive, strength-based, culturally responsive, and individualized, guided by the voices of family members and taking place at times and locations that best meet the needs of the family. With the support of the Liz Blake Giving Fund, CHRIS 180 will coordinate care and use community resources to assist families—working across generations and empowering parents and caregivers to tap into their strengths to successfully heal, parent, and thrive.
While an individual child’s behavioral challenges may be the basis of a referral, the trauma-informed WRAParound model recognizes the need for services that speak to the complex needs of each family member, including children, parents, grandparents, siblings and caregivers. Through multigenerational, wraparound services, CHRIS180 strengthens the whole family by providing:
Crisis intervention
Individual and family therapy
Training
Advocacy
Skill-building
Case management
Assistance in identifying and developing natural supports in the community
Parenting and life skills coaching
Because of the Liz Blake Giving Fund’s support, CHRIS 180 provides these wraparound and crisis response services to children and families who present with acute mental and behavioral health needs. These trauma-informed, multigenerational interventions allow children and parents to stabilize, heal, and remain together in the community—ultimately positively impacting future generations.
